Step 1

Eligibility

You’re eligible if you are:

All majors are welcome. We don’t require a housing, construction, or urban-planning major — some of the best essays we’ve received have come from students in English, sociology, economics, public health, and computer science.

Step 2

How to apply

The essay prompt

In 500–800 words, describe one specific change you would make to your community’s housing system — zoning rules, financing programs, building practices, or something else — to make safe, dignified housing more affordable for working families. Be specific about who would benefit, what would change, and what makes your idea realistic.

500–800 words. Original work only — AI-generated submissions are disqualified. Cite any data or examples you reference.

What to send

  1. Your essay as a PDF (saved as "YourLastName-AffordableHousingEssay.pdf").
  2. Proof of enrollment — a screenshot of your student portal, an enrollment letter, or an acceptance letter is fine.
  3. A current unofficial transcript (PDF or screenshot).
  4. A short cover note in the email body with your full name, school, year of study, and major.

Where to send

Email everything to scholarship@tiny-homesusa.com by October 15, 2026, 11:59 PM Central Time. We’ll send an automated confirmation within 24 hours.
